I’m so excited to share a very special collaboration featuring Margo the Magpie and her wonderful cast of Australian bird characters!

This project brings together three very special creative pieces — a beautiful story, incredible Australian bird illustrations, and handmade crochet — to bring Margo and her feathered friends from the pages of a book into the real world.

The story of Margo began with author Terri Walls, who wrote the book for her young daughter. Terri and illustrator Miranda Scherger have been best friends since high school, making this project a beautiful collaboration between two lifelong friends and now, their creative worlds.

Miranda is an incredibly talented artist who specialises in Australian birds, capturing their character, personality and unique little quirks in her illustrations. And, lucky for me, Miranda also happens to be my sister-in-law! 🥰

That’s where I come in!

Together, we’re taking Miranda’s gorgeous illustrated characters and bringing them to life through crochet, turning the birds from the pages into little handmade characters you can hold, cuddle and bring home.

There’s something really special about being able to take a story created by a mum for her daughter, illustrated by lifelong best friends, and then add another family connection by bringing those characters to life in yarn.

It’s a true little family-and-friends creative adventure — from Terri’s story, to Miranda’s illustrations, to my crochet hook. 🧶🪶

I can’t wait to introduce you to Margo and all of her Australian bird friends as they make their journey from page to yarn.

Keep an eye out — there are some very cute feathered friends coming your way! 🖤🤍
